London Fog

There is nothing better then siping on a great hot drink in the evening before bed or anytime for that matter. But, if I drink coffee I won’t sleep ahhh but I love coffee. So next best thing is a tea, right? I am the girl who used to beg my husband to come with me late at night to grab a London Fog from one of the local coffee shops just to get my craving under control. But having a small baby and a very cold winter this past year I had to figure this evening tea craving out. So after some failed attempts I came up with what I believe the best London Fog home creation is.

A typical London Fog, is made with Earl Grey tea, frothed milk, vanilla syrup and a sweetener. I use vanilla extract as that is what I always have on hand, and it gives it just the right amount of flavour. As for a sweetener my Uncle and Aunt farm honey bee’s and we have a supply of true authentic Saskatchewan honey (YUM!), if I can use honey before a sweetener/sugar thats what I am going to do. However, I have tried it with sugar, but it just didn’t give the same sweet flavour that this London Fog deserves.

As for the frothed milk, you can most certainly use any fat content you chose – 1% to half and half, it is up to you. Most days I use 2% but if I am feeling like a bit of a richer creamer taste I bring out my regular coffee cream 10% (half and half).

Now, if you do not have a frother you can always heat your milk in a small sauce pan until it gets to a small soft boil, and whisk it to bring some air into it. This can be done while your tea is steeping, I find a minimum of 5 minutes to give it a strong tea flavour. I also have just microwaved the milk and used a whisk it, but I figured my favourite part of any frothed beverage is the “frothed” milk so I had to order a milk frother to get the true frothed experience! I got this one from Amazon for about $12.00, and it comes with a stand what more can a girl ask for! There are much fancier expensive versions but this one does exactly what it is meant to. It only takes about 10-15 seconds and pure frothy deliciousness!! And, I also needed to feel special with the milk frother pitcher (not required either) but I just had to have it. It came from Amazon as well I think $6.00..hey if I am going to do it, I am going to do it like a true barista!

Simple London Fog


  • Hot water – 5 oz
  • 1 earl grey tea bag – I prefer Stash brand but use what you have access to or prefer
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp honey, I like mine little sweeter so this is definitely adjustable to your taste
  • 1/4 cup frothed warm milk

Steps to a London Fog:

  1. Steep tea in hot water for about 5 minutes. I squeeze my tea bag out.
  2. Add vanilla and honey. Stir.
  3. Froth milk, if you don’t have a frother you could always whisk it to give it just a bit of texture or simmer on the stove top while tea is steeping.
  4. Pour the milk into tea, scoop the frothed milk on top and enjoy! I like very frothy milk as you can see from above, you can adjust to how you prefer.

Done and Done, craving averted!
